Who is FLIC?

The FLIC Community:

FLIC was conceived in 2009 as an answer to the dominance of googol-plexes that have all the ambience of a parking garage. Boulder is prime for a full time indie / art film house and FLIC is a small step in that direction. FLIC places highest value on local art, independent anything, community building and perhaps the occasional kazoo band. Since its inception FLIC has thrived on the energy of a cadre of volunteers and a growing board. Meet some of the people who make FLIC happen….

FLIC Board:

Board of Directors:

Board of Advisors

  • Pablo Kjolseth – Programming Director for CU’s Int’l Film Series and ally of FLIC in Boulder’s film community.
  • Jimmy Shanfeld – Webmaster, social media advisor.

danDan Spiegler, Executive Director, has been in Boulder since ’93, when Boulder had 8 movie theaters, including a drive-in and a $1 second-run cinema, and remembers when trailers, commercials and cell phone admonitions before the movie weren’t ubiquitous. The vision for FLIC comes from a dislike for big-box stores, chains and anything else homogenized, sterilized or workaday. With over 15 years of experience in finance and operations roles ranging from start-ups to G.E., event management and real estate, Dan’s non-linear experience is either seated-in, or the by-product of, an ability to make connections between seemingly unrelated things which is, in part, what FLIC aims to do.

Monika BuntingFilm Selection. Monika loves film about as much as a good cheeseburger. Wanna buy her a cheeseburger? Got a film for FLIC to consider? Contact Monika.

Danice Crawford, Volunteer Coordinator & Stage Manager From the front door to the stage, Danice makes it all run smoothly. As the 2nd generation of local’s favorite, Marisol Imports, Danice is in love with the local arts scene. Want to get your act on FLIC’s stage? Contact Danice.

Jack Hanley, Emcee & Social Media Giant Jack is filmmaker/producer, critic, academic, folklorist, avid cinephile and of course writes a blog on film. He is currently filming the documentary “Evil Cheesy Rides Again!” and producing the upcoming TV series “Colorado X: Casefiles of the Paranormal”. When not working with FLIC in Boulder and hosting both the Bloody Celluloid Film Series and the Clandestine Campus Cinema Society at CU Boulder, he can be found at various theaters, gazing in wonderment and alone in the dark. Working with the tutelage of none other than Roger Ebert, Jack also created a local series featuring Eastern European films. Yes, really. Whether its for FLIC or other series in town, Jack has a handle on getting people excited about a film. You’ll be hearing from him. Haven’t heard from him? Go to FLIC’s home page and sign up to stay in the loop.

Scott Rodwin, Operations Set up, tear down, lighting, printing and Mr. Catchall. Scott makes it happen. Heck, he practically invented FLIC. Sort of.

David Wilson, Marketing Reformed drinker of un-named big-name brand-name beer. Un-repentant wild-bear chaser. There is no risk of films from this frustrated Marty-Stouffer-wannabe showing up as a preview at FLIC.

Howard Wishner, Branding & Sponsorship With 20 years in branding starting at the bottom with Ringling Brothers (please, no elephant jokes) Howard loves the notion, party and whole experience of FLIC as much as the film.
