Live Arts

FLIC aims to be a hub for independent arts in Boulder County.

Live Art Previews: At FLIC, 730pm is the witching hour. The evening’s host will let you know what’s coming your way and intro live previews for upcoming local art events. Music, theater, or dance, you’ll get a sneak peak of up to three shows that are in the pipe somewhere in Boulder County— each only 3-5 minutes.  (OK, we might take an extra minute to give away some free tickets.)

Why do this? The Boulder and Denver area is home to more self-declared artists than any place in the country, yet we don’t fund our arts organizations very well, with rare exceptions. For over ten years, the Bug Theater in Denver has hosted a wicked fun open mic night. OK, it’s partly pure open mic and partly free marketing for other area troupes but hey! it’s always top notch. So FLIC listened to the Boulder community and this idea kept coming up. FLIC is a community org that listens. Cross pollinating arts groups can only lead to better things for the arts community and Boulder at large.

Isn’t that just a commercial? OK, sure it is. Would you rather watch a commercial for 7 upcoming movies with Kevin Bacon? How about obviously computer generated animated cell phone admonitions and info about renting out the theater? Or would you like to find out about what real people in your community are doing? No money is exchanged. If the preview looks cool, tell your friends and go see the show. If it’s dorky, well, it’s only 3 minutes. Go get a drink. Hurry…the movie’s starting soon!
